Carmi Rubin
Entrepreneurship is in my DNA. My journey in the fashion industry didn’t start in a showroom; it started generations ago in the Maritimes. My grandfather was a clothing salesman, and my father, Zachary Rubin, ran a successful agency for over 40 years. Following in their footsteps, I spent seven years in the Toronto wholesale industry after moving from Halifax in 2001, but I always knew I wanted to build something of my own.
In 2008, with an 11-month-old son at home, I launched Carmi Agency. I saw a need for a children’s wear agency that allowed me the flexibility to be a present mother to my son, Rubin, while contributing to my family’s future.
The early days were humble — I started by running the agency out of the trunk of my car. Through hard work and a passion for the brands I represent, that “mobile office” eventually became a showroom on King Street. Today, we are located in the heart of the Wingold Avenue fashion district. Over the last 15 years, we have expanded through three different showrooms, representing premier brands and continuing a family legacy that spans three generations.
